On this part of a project I was given a few spots where pipe needed to be connected and told to figure it out. So I got some practice in with planning out DWV (Drain Waste Vent) systems, adapting to other kinds of pipe, and working around obstacles. The way I planned a system like this was by first getting an idea of what needs to go where, and the rough route that would need to take. After I do that, I’ll start building the system, which in this case required cutting out some old cast iron, and adapting to PVC. Things I need to keep in mind when im building a system like this are pitch, and what am I getting in the way of. Pitch is the main concern, and is one of the first things I need to check before I actually do anything. Generally I can get a good idea on if there’s enough pitch by looking at it, but if I can’t tell I’ll get a laser level and measure the height of the start and end of the route I need to run, and how much distance it needs to cover. It needs to be a minimum of 1/8" per foot, but 1/4" is ideal.
